Pretoria functions as one of three capitals of South Africa with a population that exceeds a million people, the bulk of who are government officials. The city centre is laid out in typical city fashion on a grid with wide roads, making getting around fairly simple.

Hatfield is a suburb in Pretoria with a high density of students and student accommodation due to hosting the University of Pretoria's main campus. And also one of the suburbs that will boast the Gautrain station.

The Gautrain is an 80-kilometre mass rapid transit railway system in Gauteng Province, South Africa, which links Johannesburg, Pretoria, and OR Tambo International Airport.

Waterkloof is a suburb of the city of Pretoria, South Africa. It is named after the original farm that stood there when Pretoria was founded in the 19th Century. Located to the east of the city centre, Waterkloof is a leafy, established area that is home to some of the city's most expensive real estate. Like large parts of Pretoria, its streets are lined with many jacaranda trees that blossom in a riot of colour during October.

It is a highly sought-after area, boasting some magnificent hilltop homesteads on Edward and Victoria Streets that command an impressive view of the South African capital, including the Union Buildings. It houses the Pretoria Country Club which has a fine 18-hole golf course.

Several ambassadorial residences are located in the suburb. The main thoroughfares are Crown Avenue, which links Waterkloof with the affluent suburb of Brooklyn, Pretoria to its north, and Albert Street, which runs East-West between the neighbouring areas of Menlo Park and Groenkloof.

Brooklyn is a suburb of the city of Pretoria, South Africa. It is a well-established area, lying to the east of the city centre, encompassing high-end residential properties and several upmarket mall developments. It borders the University of Pretoria to its north and the suburbs of Groenkloof and Waterkloof to its south. Brooklyn is also the location of Pretoria Boys High School.

Groenkloof is a suburb of Pretoria, South Africa.The famous Little Company of Mary Hospital is situated in Groenkloof as well as the Education Faculty of the University of Pretoria. It is also home to other well known establishments, such as Groenkloof Spar, Café 41, Pride of India restaurant and Groenkloof Virgin Active Gym. The suburb is also home to various Embassies. Groenkloof is a highly popular suburb of Pretoria due to its location. It is very close to the City centre, and to the well-known Menlyn Park shopping centre. The university of Pretoria main campus is only 3 km drive and it is a few minutes from the N14 freeway linking Pretoria and Johannesburg (via the N1).

The suburb lies between Koningin Wilhelmina Avenue to the East, George Storrar Avenue to the North and Fort Klapperkop to the South. Herbert Baker- and Van Wouw- streets are some of the well-known streets in the area and home to some of the city's wealthiest residents.

Menlo Park is a suburb in the city of Pretoria, South Africa. It borders other upmarket areas Waterkloof, Brooklyn and Lynnwood. When it was first established between the 1950s and 1970s, it was the most eastern suburb of Pretoria, but the city has since considerably expanded eastwards. Today these suburbs are known as the old east and can boast to have some of the city’s most high-end residential properties.

Menlo Park has a central position near the N1 highway, within easy reach of the CBD, is near major shopping malls (Menlyn and Brooklyn Mall), and has a revamped heart, with a theatre, coffee bars, restaurants and cafés. It lies near the University of Pretoria.

Together with Brooklyn and Lynnwood, it was most likely named after American counterparts. Residents think that this reflects the suburb’s less “stuffy” image, when compared to that of leafy Waterkloof.

The suburb was the home of iconic South African artist Walter Battiss.
